A Russian strike hit the National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv on September 28, sparking a fire and prompting a major emergency response, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The attack killed one woman and injured three other people, Kyiv officials said. Emergency personnel remained at the scene as firefighters and rescue teams worked to contain the damage and respond to those affected.
The strike was part of a wider wave of Russian attacks targeting Kyiv. Other locations reportedly came under attack, including a medical facility and additional civilian infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials.

Zelenskyy Calls for Stronger International Pressure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes and urged Ukraine’s international partners to increase pressure on Russia.
Zelenskyy called on European countries, the United States and other allies to strengthen their support for Ukraine and expand efforts to protect civilians from continued attacks.
The latest strikes come as Kyiv continues to face Russian missile and drone attacks, with Ukrainian authorities repeatedly warning residents about the threat to civilian areas.
Emergency crews continued their work at the National Academy of Sciences site as authorities assessed the extent of the damage and responded to the casualties.
