Argentina Crush Burkina Faso 7-0 as Lautaro Martinez Leads Friendly Rout

Argentina delivered another dominant performance after the 2026 World Cup, sweeping aside Burkina Faso 7-0 in an international friendly at Buenos Aires’ Monumental Stadium.

Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring and played a key role in Argentina’s emphatic victory on Saturday, October 3. The Inter Milan striker missed an early penalty but quickly recovered, converting the rebound to put the world champions ahead.

Argentina’s commanding display extended their strong run during the post-World Cup international window and gave Lionel Scaloni an opportunity to assess several players ahead of the team’s next challenge.

Lautaro Martinez Makes Early Impact

Argentina needed only a few minutes to break through.

Agustin Giay was brought down inside the penalty area, giving Martinez the opportunity to open the scoring from the spot. Burkina Faso goalkeeper Razak Guira saved the penalty, but Martinez reacted quickly to finish the rebound.

The goal continued Martinez’s impressive international form after he also scored in Argentina’s 4-0 victory over Bolivia earlier in the window.

Argentina doubled their advantage soon afterward when Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo turned the ball into his own net.

Gianluca Prestianni then added Argentina’s third goal in the 12th minute, giving the hosts a comfortable advantage before the match had reached the quarter-hour mark.

Argentina Take Complete Control

Nicolas Paz and Julian Alvarez added further goals before halftime as Argentina went into the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.

The second half continued in much the same fashion. Argentina controlled possession and created repeated opportunities while Burkina Faso struggled to cope with the hosts’ attacking quality.

Franco Mastantuono scored his first goal for Argentina after the break, adding another highlight to an already one-sided contest. Giuliano Simeone then completed the scoring with a header as Argentina finished with a 7-0 victory.

Burkina Faso Faced Difficult Preparation

Burkina Faso’s preparations for the friendly were disrupted by significant travel problems. The team’s original flight was reportedly canceled, leaving the squad dealing with delays before eventually reaching Buenos Aires shortly before the match.

The difficult journey, combined with a depleted squad, contributed to a challenging night for the African side.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the visitors, Argentina took full advantage of the opportunity and produced a performance that underlined their attacking depth.

Argentina Continue Post-World Cup Preparations

The match was Argentina’s second friendly of the international window. Scaloni’s team had previously defeated Bolivia 4-0, with Martinez, Paz, Cristian Romero and Jose Manuel Lopez on the scoresheet.

Argentina will complete the current home-friendly series against Benin on October 6, a match that is expected to carry particular significance because Lionel Messi has been called up for a farewell appearance following his international retirement.
